Kings: Preview of Masters and Commanders

Wanted to write a quick preview of my Friday class entitled Masters and Commanders, taught by Victor Davis Hanson. We are using several texts for the class, including some written by the teacher himself.
The idea of the class is to get inside the heads of military leaders from across history, from the beginning of civilization to today. What motivated them? How did they think and construct their war strategies?
Hanson, who is of course a well known scholar on the topic and fellow at the Hoover Institute, is the best teacher we could ask for on the subject (save maybe someone from one of the Military Academies). The class is four hours long, each Friday, so I’m hoping we get some good conversation going this first class.
